Two Serious Side Effects
The drug Sildenfil Citrate (marketed under the brand name Viagra) has been under investigation due to the two serious side effects related to the use of this defective drug. The side effects that have been associated with the use of Viagra are sudden hearing loss and vision loss. The United States Food and Drug Administration requested the label of Viagra be changed as of October 2007. The changes to the label include the warning of sudden hearing loss and vision loss associated the use of this drug.
If you or someone you know has suffered sudden hearing or vision loss after taking Viagra call us at 1 (888) 749-5050 or contact us online to discuss your legal options with a friendly and helpful professional.
Hearing Loss - Downplayed Warning Label
Although the use of Viagra is most common among older men, who may experience gradual hearing loss naturally, sudden hearing loss is extremely unusual. As with the case in many defective drugs, we believe that the manufactures warning of deafness as a possible side effect was downplayed on the warning label. Although the new label of Viagra states more clearly the side effects, reports show hearing loss was a known side effect in the clinical trials. The new label advises patients to stop taking Viagra if they notice any symptoms if sudden hearing loss. We believe that Pfizer should be held liable for the damages that they have caused due to the fact that the old label down played the risk factors.
Vision Loss
Another major side effect of Viagra is vision loss, also known as Nonarteric Ischemic Optic Neuropathy or NAION. This condition is an eye illness which can result in permanent vision loss. Recent studies have reported that as many as 14 people suffered from NAION after taking Viagra. It is not uncommon that a patient will notice this vision loss as early as 24-36 hours after taking the drug. Some of the first symptoms that a patient will notice are blurred vision and even dizziness. Once again, the manufacturer knowingly marketed this drug knowing that it may cause harmful side effects.
If you or someone you know has suffered sudden hearing loss or the condition known as NAION and have taken the drug Viagra, please contact Goggins & Associates so that we may assist you in winning your case.
